About Sherry Moyers

Picture
Sherry spent her early childhood in the Midwest (Michigan, Minnesota, and Missouri), and spent her high school years in Washington State. She was the second of five children and her father worked for the U.S. Forest Service. Sherry has always loved music and has sung in church all her life.  She came out to Virginia to go to college.

She was introduced to bluegrass gospel music in the 1990's when she and her husband Greg settled in Northern Virginia and started their family. They listened to Red Shipley's "Stained Glass Bluegrass" show every Sunday morning on WAMU's 88.5FM
(And they still do--only now it is with Bob Webster on www.bluegrasscountry.org). They often visited Greg's family in West Virgina, where Sherry enjoyed the local southern gospel and bluegrass music played there, and the hymns sung in Greg's family church.  Sherry fell in love with bluegrass gospel and southern gospel music.  Greg gave her a guitar for Christmas,  and Sherry began her journey as a bluegrass/southern gospel artist.

Some of Sherry's biggest influences/favorite artists are Alison Krauss and Union Station, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Jim & Jesse, the Stanley Brothers, the Osborne Brothers, the Isaacs, the Good Shepherd Quartet, the Country Gentlemen, The Valley Four, the Chuckwagon Gang, Blue Highway, the Lewis Family, and the Marshall Family.

Sherry released her first gospel album In The Garden in 2005, and  her second project Longing For Home in 2011. Both albums were co-produced by Sam Yoder at Country House Studios in Nokesville, Virginia.

Sherry plays with The Pig Roast Band in Fauquier County, Virginia and occasionally sings and plays for special events. She and Melissa Helmick  plan to perform as a duo in 2012.

About Melissa Renee Helmick

Picture
Melissa Renee Helmick was born and raised in Virginia.  She has sung in church all her life and grew up hearing her mother sing all kinds of old-timey songs. Her father taught her his favorite songs about trains.  She loves and understands all the same music that Sherry likes, so they make a great team. Melissa has performed with Harmony of Faith (Southern Gospel/Praise), The Madison Miller Band (Country), and also plays guitar and sings with Sherry in the The Pig Roast Band. Melissa joined Sherry on the Longing For Home CD, singing background vocals and providing the lovely high harmonies on "Sweet Sunny South." "In My Robe of White" and many others. Sherry Moyers and Melissa Renee Helmick  plan to perform as a duo in 2012. Melissa resides in Fauquier County, Virginia.
